"Dennis, The Ultimate Gentleman"

“Somewhere in time's own space
There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some paradise where horses go,
For by the love that guides my pen I know great horses live again.”
―Stanley Harrison
Dawn Howard small in stature but larger than life. Her smile & laughter were always contiguous.
Now the two of them can ride the clouds together.
Zach, Blake and myself had the pleasure of watching Debbie & Blanchard training Dennis to his National titles. How blessed we were just watching his fabulous gaits and mere presence in the ring.
The thrill of my first ride when Debbie decided to use him as a lesson horse. Riding Dennis in the early days was such a rush. He was my first Andalusian and what a ride he gave me. Dennis responded so readily forgiving my blunders making me appear to be a much better rider. It was all Dennis. I called all who would listen sharing the thrill of that ride.
Blessed again! Got to watch my son show Dennis! By then he was a quiet veteran lesson horse but not that day. He was back in his glory as the ultimate show horse. My favorite moment was when I expressed my doubts to Zach that Dennis with his powerful trot could ever be a western pleasure horse. Zach sitting proudly on Dennis looked down at me with such confidence stating Dennis will do anything asked of him...Mom just watch us! Dennis was gorgeous as usual taking the blue.
On that Saturday my granddaughter asked to walk through the barn & we did.
Dennis was standing quietly in the corridor we loved on him encouraging him to feel better. As we finished our tour we encountered Ms. Karen with Dennis. The three of us stood quietly sharing our respect, love, and prayers for Dennis "The Ultimate Gentleman"!
There are no words for his loss but what a honor it has been for all who were blessed with his presence! When I hear someone mention Great Horses Dennis will always come to mind because he truly earned the right to be called Great!
My love and prayers to Blanchard, Debbie, Melissa and staff,
Pamela Dukes
